At Mother Duck Childcare and Kindergarten, your child’s safety is our highest priority. We believe that active supervision is one of the most powerful ways we can protect and support children each day — not just physically, but emotionally and developmentally too.

From the moment your child enters our doors to the time they are collected, our educators are purposefully positioned, alert, and engaged. We don’t simply watch from afar — we are actively involved in children’s play and learning, always ensuring we know where every child is and what they are doing. 

Our educators use a combination of skills including peripheral vision, awareness of tone and volume, and responsive positioning to ensure that no moment goes unnoticed.

But supervision doesn’t stop with educators. Sometimes visitors come into our services to support children’s learning — from speech therapists and occupational therapists to dance teachers and sports coaches. 

Whenever these visitors are working with children, a Mother Duck educator is always present. 

This means:

• Children are never left alone with a visitor — even a trusted allied health professional.
• Educators can respond immediately if a child becomes distressed or needs support.
• Supervision ratios are always maintained, even during small-group or individual sessions.

We also conduct thorough risk assessments for every extra-curricular program or incursion, so our teams can plan to reduce hazards and maintain high standards of safety — regardless of changes in environment or weather.

And behind the scenes, we ensure every person who works with children — whether regularly or just for one session — holds a current Working with Children Check (Blue Card). This includes therapists, instructors, students on placement, and even visiting maintenance personnel.
