Honouring Being

Being values childhood as it unfolds now.

We organise our days around extended, uninterrupted play. Ideas stretch across weeks, sometimes months, deepening in complexity and meaning.

Our foundational practices guide us:

  • Slowing down
    • Listening deeply
    • Attuning to cues
    • Small group movement
    • Doing with children, not for them

Transitions flow as gentle movements, guided by readiness rather than urgency.

Children are supported to listen inwardly, to recognise hunger, tiredness, excitement and body queues and importantly, they are given time to understand their needs and attune to their own bodies. Through this gentle pacing, children begin to trust their internal signals. Autonomy and self-awareness grow not through instruction, but through lived, embodied experience.

Our environments protect this slowness.

Children move with freedom between indoor and outdoor spaces, choosing where their bodies and thinking feel most engaged. Materials remain accessible and thoughtfully arranged to invite independence. Ongoing projects stay available for revisiting, allowing ideas to deepen across time. Safety here is relational and present, expressed through proximity, attentiveness and responsiveness.

Documentation mirrors this same care. It is gathered slowly, interpreted thoughtfully, and shared with intention, honouring the depth, dignity and unfolding of each child’s learning journey.

As Carla Rinaldi shares:

“Documentation is a way of making learning visible.”
— Rinaldi, 2006

We gather observations thoughtfully across time, noticing patterns, strengths and the unfolding threads of each child’s identity. Our end-of-term reflections share the deeper story of learning, a connected narrative that honours growth, relationships and evolving thinking.

In this way, Being gently nurtures creativity, emotional literacy and confidence.

It recognises childhood as rich, capable and deeply worthy in its own right.
