At Mother Duck Childcare and Kindergarten, safeguarding children is more than a policy — it’s an active commitment. Our commitment extends beyond compliance or duty; it is a shared moral responsibility to ensure that every child experiences not only safety but a deep sense of belonging.

Recently, Mother Duck was honoured to have a team of representatives invited to speak at the Reimagine Australia ChildKind Conference, recognised as leaders in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector for exploring innovative ways to uphold children’s rights — particularly for children with developmental differences, neurodivergence, or diagnosed disabilities.

Our involvement in this national conversation reflected the heart of our ongoing work: championing environments where all children can flourish. This directly aligns with the Queensland Child Safe Standards, particularly Standard 4 — Equity is upheld, and diverse needs are respected in policy and practice.

Listening First — Walking Beside Families

During our panel presentation, we explored one of the most critical elements of supporting children: walking beside families. We know that children’s safety and well-being are not achieved by one person, one policy, or one program — they are upheld through a collective ecosystem of care. Every adult in a child’s world plays a vital role, from educators and families to therapists and community members. When this ecosystem works in harmony, guided by shared respect and open communication, we create the conditions where children feel truly safe to be themselves.

Staying Teachable — Humility as Our Compass

A key part of our contribution at the ChildKind Conference was our openness in acknowledging that we are still learning. While we are proud of the progress we’ve made, we recognise that we still have a long way to go. The ChildKind experience was both refuelling and humbling — a powerful reminder that advocacy work leaves no room for inflated pride.

Each conversation, each family story, and each new piece of research reinforces how much more there is to reflect on and improve. While we celebrate small successes, we remain grounded in humility — continually learning, adapting, and refining how we uphold the rights and safety of children in our care.

Moving Forward Together — Hope and Bridge-Building

This spirit of learning and collaboration inspired the Mother Duck Committee to sponsor the ongoing work of Reimagine Australia. We recognise that in a time where the ECEC sector faces immense pressures — workforce, regulation, and reform — we must continue to move forward together, with optimism and courage.

Our sponsorship reflects a deep belief that child safety and wellbeing require active bridge-building across sectors — health, education, community services, and beyond. Protecting and uplifting children cannot be the responsibility of one field alone.
